COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has a primetime speaking role at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Monday a schedule for opening night that features Haley among primetime speakers. South Carolina's first female and first minority governor is set to speak ahead of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney's wife, Ann Romney.
State Republican Party Chairman Chad Connelly congratulated Haley on a prominent 10 p.m. spot.
Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey says her speech next Monday will focus on her battles with the federal government and her relationship with the Romneys. Haley was first announced as a speaker Aug. 6.
Haley endorsed Romney last December, ahead of the state's first-in-the-South presidential primary. Romney lost to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
