Suspect nabbed hour after downtown armed robbery

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a suspect who attempted to rob a man in downtown early Wednesday morning was arrested an hour after the incident occurred.

The Charleston Police Department charged Kneco Shaquille Furlow with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen handgun.

The victim said he was walking his dog around 6 a.m. on Elizabeth Street when he was approached by a man armed with a gun. When the victim told the suspect he didn't have any money, the suspect fled on foot.

The victim then called police and provided information about the incident and a description of the suspect.

A police officer in the area of Mary and Elizabeth streets saw a man matching the description and tried to speak to the man. A police report states that the man then fled on America Street and dropped a gun as he ran away.

Investigators say the man was found hiding near a Drake Street home. The victim was brought to the location and identified the man as the one attempted to rob him. Police also recovered the gun which was reported stolen out of North Charleston.

Furlow was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
