Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A suspect is now in the custody of the Charleston Police Department, after an hours-long stand-off this evening in a downtown apartment complex.

Charleston Police Public Information Officer Charles Francis says that agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Marshals were attempting to serve a warrant at about 4pm this afternoon when the suspect ran into one of the units of the Bridgeview Village Apartments.

The SWAT team, as well as Hostage Negotiations and the Explosives Device Unit, were called to the scene, where they surrounded the unit where the suspect fled.

The suspect was arrested at about 9pm.  It is not known why he was originally served a warrant.
