CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Government officials say a 21-year-old fugitive drug dealer was arrested following a standoff at an apartment complex in downtown this weekend.

United States Attorney Bill Nettles said that Shakenth Renard Deveaux was arrested Saturday night following a SWAT standoff at the Bridgeview Apartment complex.

Charleston Police Public Information Officer Charles Francis says that agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Marshals were attempting to serve a warrant when the suspect ran into one of the units of the Bridgeview Village Apartments.

The SWAT team, as well as Hostage Negotiations and the Explosives Device Unit, were called to the scene, where they surrounded the unit where the suspect fled. The suspect was arrested at about 9 p.m.

Nettles said that Deveaux has been a fugitive for a while. Deveaux was one of 25 defendants in an 85 count federal indictment. According to authorities, Deveaux is accused of drug trafficking conspiracy involving more than a kilogram of heroin, more than 280 grams of crack cocaine, more than 500 grams of cocaine and a quantity of marijuana.

Deveaux also faces charges of using various places, including apartments and residences located within Bridgeview, for the purpose of manufacturing and distributing drugs.
