SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Summerville Police Department say they have charged the driver of an 18-wheeler after a tree the truck was hauling struck a school bus.
Authorities say James Roberts contributed to the Wednesday morning accident and was charged with improper turn.
Summerville police say passengers in the school bus were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening after a tree pierced through the bus at 6:45 a.m. at Central Avenue and Parsons Road.
According to officials, the truck was turning west onto Parsons Road and the bus was traveling north on Central Avenue.
When the truck was turning, one of the trees it was hauling punctured the side of the bus above the driver's side-door and went out the other side.
Passengers on the Head Start bus, including the driver, assistant and three students, where taken to an area hospital.
