SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - A 9-month-old girl died at an Upstate hospital Thursday, one week after she ended up submerged in a bathtub and stopped breathing, according to the coroner.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said deputies and EMS were called to Brookwood Motel on College Drive on August 20.

Deputies said that the baby, Aaliyah Nicole Williams, was found in the bathtub and was unresponsive.

Aaliyah was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where she died on Aug. 28.

Clevenger said an autopsy was performed Wednesday afternoon.

Late Thursday afternoon, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Aaliyah's 21-year-old mother, Mary Ann Williams. Investigators said Williams left the baby unattended in the tub, causing her to drown.

Aaliyah was on life-support until her death on Thursday.
