GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) -

A 45-year-old mother was charged Wednesday in the death of her 15-month-old daughter who was run over near their home last month, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Rina Edith Padilla Mencia is charged with homicide by child neglect in the death of her daughter, Yoely Padilla Mencia.

She is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center.

Yoely was struck inside the Riverview mobile home park on Saluda Dam Road on the morning of July 30.

Yoely Padilla Mencia Sheriff's Office investigators said they learned that Padilla Mencia was leaving the mobile home and had not made arrangements for someone to take care of her daughter. The toddler was able to make her way into the road and was struck by her mother's vehicle and died at the scene, according to investigators.

A release from the sheriff's office said that deputies had previously been called to Padilla Mencia's residence for a possible child neglect report. They said Padilla Mencia told them she didn't know where her 5-year-old child was. The child was found shortly after.

Investigators said they learned during that case that there were several instances in which Padilla Mencia did not have proper supervision for her children.

That case was being investigated by the Sheriff's Office and the Department of Social Services at the time of Yoely's death.

A neighbor said Yoely had two siblings, and that the toddler would often play by the curb of the street.
