Study: Calorie restriction may not prolong life

(CNN) – A new study suggests the cutting your calories doesn't necessarily mean a prolonged life.

Researchers at the National Institute of Aging have been studying the effects of calorie restrictions on monkeys for more than two decades.

Surprisingly, they've found that older monkeys who ate fewer calories didn't live any longer than their counterparts who weren't dieting.

But the author of the study, which was published in the journal Nature, said more research is needed for the topic.

A parallel study at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center showed different monkeys did improve their survival rates when they dieted.
