(CNN) – A new study finds that eating moderate amounts of chocolate may lower the risk of stroke in men.
Researchers followed the eating habits of more than 37,000 men in Sweden for about 10 years.
Those who ate the most chocolate – about 2.2 ounces a week – had a 17 percent lower risk of stroke over those years that those who ate little or no chocolate.
Researchers pooled their data and found similar results for men and women in four previous studies.
While the Swedish study did not look at the type of chocolate eaten, it notes that 90 percent of chocolate consumed in Sweden is milk chocolate.
The study was published on Wednesday in the journal Neurology.
