CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say 20 people in six Lowcountry counties were arrested and charged with driving under influence over Labor Day weekend.
While eight people were charged with DUI in Berkeley and Charleston counties, three people were charged in Dorchester and Colleton counties, and nine others were charged in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
Whereas 5 fatalities were reported in those counties last year, only one was reported this year. St. George native Joshua Sweatman, 19, was killed early Saturday after being ejected from his pickup in a single-vehicle wreck.
There were 61 collisions reported those counties, and over 1,000 tickets issued, along with over 600 warnings.
527 seat-belt tickets were also issued.
