CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The $150 million renovation of Charleston International Airport's terminal will begin in mid-November, three months earlier than announced in August.

Work on the $15 million expansion of the ramp which will lead to the terminal and a new rental car pavilion will start about a month after the Oct. 18 ground-breaking ceremony, Director Sue Stevens confirmed Tuesday.

Quite a few changes are coming to the airport, including: consolidated security, a dome over the atrium, six new gates, an additional baggage carousel, new office space, and a new way to pass through security - passengers will be directed behind airline kiosks rather than through the lobby.

The work will be done in phases to avoid inconveniences for passengers, Stevens said.
