Summerville man riding bicycle wrong way leads to gun charges

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police officers charged a 26-year-old Summerville on gun charges after authorities say the man took off after getting caught riding a bike the wrong way on a one way street in downtown Tuesday afternoon.

The Charleston Police Department charged Byron Christopher Kinsey with unlawful carrying of a handgun, unlawful possession of a handgun by a felon, possession of a stolen handgun, public disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and riding the wrong way on a one way street.

Officers say they saw Kinsey around 3:45 p.m. riding a bicycle the wrong way on a one way street on Jackson Street.

According to police, when officers attempted to stop Kinsey, he jumped off the bicycle and discarded a handgun next to it.

Investigators say a perimeter was set up in the area and Kinsey was found on Stuart Street.

Kinsey, who is on probation for failure to stop for a blue light, was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
