Deputies return to murder scene at Francis Marion forest

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County sheriff's deputies returned to the Francis Marion forest on Thursday. Last week, the area off Cane Gully Road in Cordesville was a murder scene where a teenager was found shot to death near her burned out car.

Officials with the sheriff's office say they were showing the solicitor the crime scene and double checking to make sure they collected all the possible evidence in the murder investigation.

Deputies were stationed at the trail head of Cane Gully Road. Dive teams were set up re-searching ponds close to where 18-year-old Dana Woods' body and burned out car was discovered.

Because it rained so much last week, deputies were able to investigate the crime scene closer under different conditions on Thursday. Investigators say they have collected all evidence from both crime scenes.

Woods'  friend, 22 -year-old June Guerry, was found 10 miles away in Alvin. Her body was found in an old sand pit off Greenwood Road. Deputies say both women were shot to death after being reported missing last Monday.

Within a few days, deputies arrested Caleb Matlock and Arthur Chavis in connection to the murders. Both were denied bond this weekend.
