CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a convicted sex offender for the second time in just over a month after they say he attempted to sexually assault another woman in downtown Charleston.
The Charleston Police Department has charged 47-year-old Nathaniel Wilson, of 474 Meeting Street, with assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in connection with an April 28 incident near the railroad tracks behind 668 King Street.
Police say the incident occurred about 5 a.m. as the victim was walking from a friend's residence on Line Street to another friend's residence on Huger Street.
A release states the victim was approached from behind by Wilson, who grabbed her around the neck and choked her until she was unconscious. The victim regained consciousness, fought off the suspect and ran toward King Street.
Police say Wilson chased after her, shoved her to the ground and began kicking her. The victim fought him off again and ran toward King Street, where she was assisted by a passing motorist.
Wilson was arrested in early August after police say he abducted a woman outside of an upper King Street bar before taking her to Hampton Park and the Septima Clark Expressway, where he assaulted her in both locations.
Wilson was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct in relation to that incident.
He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
