Charleston teen killed in fiery I-26 crash

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC/WIS) - A Charleston teenager died Thursday afternoon following a fiery crash on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 4 p.m. near mile marker 164.

Troopers said a 1998 Mazda was traveling eastbound before the Vance Road exit when it went off the left side of the road, hit a tree, and caught on fire.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Alexandra Rubino, of Charleston, died at the scene.

According to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office, Rubino died due to blunt force trauma from the crash, not because of the fire.

The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
