Soldier killed after vehicle hits trees in St. George

ST. GEORGE, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a 22-year-old serviceman died Sunday evening after his vehicle went airborne and collided with trees in St. George.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said Nolan Webb Mincey, of St. George, died from massive head and neck trauma after the wreck on Friendship Road around 6:10 p.m.

The wreck happened near the intersection of Mill Pond Road.

Nisbet said it appeared Mincey was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran off the right side of the road before overcorrecting and running off the left side of the road. Mincey then overcorrected again, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, go airborne, and roll and collide with trees.

Mincey, who Nisbet said has been stationed at the United States Army base in Ft. Stewart, Georgia, was pronounced dead on scene.
