NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department has identified a 55-year-old man who was arrested following a bank robbery Thursday morning.

Authorities arrested Clarence Anthony King of North Charleston.

Investigators say they are still searching for the getaway driver and a black Mercedes-Benz.

According to police spokesman Spencer Pryor, a suspect walked into the bank located at 3356 Rivers Avenue around 9 a.m. and pointed a gun at the teller before demanding money.

Pryor said the suspect and an accomplice fled the scene with a bag of money in a black Mercedes-Benz, but were tracked by a Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputy who happened to be in the area.

That deputy was able to provide a description of the gunman. North Charleston police then encountered a suspect matching that description a short time later on Arbutus Avenue in the Union Heights neighborhood.

The suspect fled, but was found trying to hide in the back of a house nearby in the neighborhood shortly after.

Pryor said the gun and the bag of money have been recovered, but they are still searching for the second suspect and the getaway vehicle, which was last seen near the Union Heights neighborhood.
