WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A former U.S. Army captain who worked as a contractor in Afghanistan has pleaded guilty to importing heroin into the U.S.

Thirty-6-year-old Saleem Sharif of Johns Island, S.C., entered the plea Thursday in U.S. District Court in Delaware. He faces a mandatory minimum of 5 years in prison at sentencing Jan. 15.

At his plea hearing, Sharif admitted to importing at least 2.5 kilograms of heroin. He concealed the heroin in DVD cases, each case containing about 75 grams of heroin.
