Report: Man found in Francis Marion forest was shot in the chest

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office says a man who was found dead in the Francis Marion National Forest was shot in the chest.

In a sheriff's office report released on Thursday, authorities say the body of 31-year-old Robert Lamar Moultrie was found with a gunshot wound to his chest.

According to investigators, Moultrie's body was found at 8 a.m. on Tuesday in a Chevy Suburban which was found on Brick Church Road.

The sheriff's office was contacted by a witness who said he saw a Chevrolet Suburban parked in the woods, 20 yards from the roadway on Brick Church Road.

The witness said that when he approached the vehicle, he saw a man slumped over in the rear passenger seat.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
