Investigators: Wanted man dumps drugs during car chase

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office arrested a 46-year-old suspected drug dealer accused of dumping marijuana and cocaine down a roadway during a car chase Thursday night.

Investigators charged Randolph Drake of Johns Island with failure to stop for blue lights, trafficking cocaine base, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and driving under suspension fourth offense.

At 9:44 p.m., deputies say they attempted a traffic stop on a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse after the driver was determined to be wanted for outstanding warrants and driving with a suspended license.

According to investigators, the suspect's vehicle made a right turn into the BP gas station at Main and River Road, where the driver accelerated through the parking lot, made an abrupt left turn back onto Main Road and accelerated to 70 to 85 m.p.h.

The sheriff's office says after deputies successfully used stop sticks on the car on Main Road, a deputy saw several items, later located and identified as drugs, being thrown out of the vehicle.

Deputies say the suspect's car turned onto Patton Avenue and eventually came to a stop at his home.

An incident report states that a total of 6.3 grams of cocaine, and 53.3 grams of cocaine base were located off of the roadway on Main Road and 1 gram of marijuana was located in the vehicle.

A passenger in the vehicle, 46-year-old Claudine R. Johnson of Johns Island, was also arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine base and possession with intent to distribute cocaine

Both were locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
