CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Conway woman is facing child cruelty charges after police say she beat and choked a 12-year-old boy while under the influence of alcohol.
An Horry County Police Department officer responded to the home on Red Bud Lane Monday morning where the incident reportedly occurred to find 40-year-old Elizabeth Ann Williams of Conway sitting on the back porch with her boyfriend and the 12-year-old victim.
According to the police report, Williams was shouting profanities and racial slurs at the pre-teen, and was angry at him for being awake and playing with his friends.
The boy was told to send his friends home, which he did and then went to find an electronic game to entertain himself. The report states Williams was angered enough to come after the kid, choking and beating him.
The boy showed his scratches from the altercation to police. When the officer approached Williams, she stated almost immediately how she had not driven herself home. The officer assured her that was not what he had come to investigate, but instead wanted to know what had happened between her and the boy.
Williams denied the altercation, despite the accounts from witnesses and the victim that stated otherwise.
Williams was taken into custody and charged with cruelty to children. The 12-year-old boy was taken into emergency protective custody by DSS after advising the officer of another incident that occurred when he was six or seven where he was thrown across the room.
Bond for Williams has not been set.
