New plans suggested for Charleston Neck area

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Recommendations were given for the neck area of Charleston which runs from North Charleston into downtown.

Whit Blanton of Renaissance Planning Group says the area needs better transportation.

The recommendations include a new road to connect Mall Drive to Tanger Outlets on Virginia Avenue, separating cargo traffic and residential traffic and using Azalea Drive for moving cargo.

The Charleston-Berkeley-Dorchester council of government heard the recommendations.

There's no timeline yet on putting the plans in place.
