KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Aquarium is releasing three sea turtles back into the Atlantic Ocean.
The release is scheduled for Wednesday on Kiawah Island. The three turtles have been undergoing treatment at the aquarium's sea turtle hospital in recent months.
1 of the turtles is named Dewees. The turtle was found floating in Dewees Inlet near Charleston last April suffering from hunger, dehydration and anemia. With the help of antibiotics, fluids, vitamin injections and a healthy diet, Dewees gained 15 pounds and is ready to return to the ocean.
The other two turtles are named Hook and Murray. Both are juvenile Kemp's ridley sea turtles accidently caught by recreational fishermen. Hook was caught off Myrtle Beach State Park while Murray was caught off Edisto Island.
