SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Students at Pinewood Preparatory will soon be able to join the school's new wrestling team.
In an announcement released Thursday, Pinewood Preparatory has added wrestling to the athletic program at the school. Coach Ben Cheatham and Assistant Coach Steve Mandell will head the program.
When asked why he thought wrestling was a good addition to the school's athletic program, Cheatham pointed out the benefits that wrestling will provide students.
"There is no other sport, on a high school level, that requires the demand that wrestling does. Wrestling is not only a test of mental and physical strength, but sets the foundation for mental fortitude," said Cheatham.
Cheatham is currently the Vice President of Channel Development at Penford Corporations, and wrestled in high school. He was also the assistant wrestling coach at Summerville High School for three years.
Pinewood's wrestling season will kick-off October 29.
