WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a man who was arrested on Friday for an armed robbery was released from jail on Sunday after an investigation revealed that the witness was actually involved in the robbery.
The Charleston Police Department charged 17-year-old Jo'Var Delvonte Heyward with armed robbery and filing a false police report.
Heyward originally told officers that he witnessed 22-year-old Valentino Hayward and 18-year-old Jerron Smith commit an armed robbery on Cashew Street on Sept. 12.
Police say Valentino Hayward was released from jail after investigators learned that Jo'Var Hayward, the man who identified Valentino as a suspect, was lying and that Jo'Var was involved in the robbery.
Investigators say Jo'Var Heyward and Jerron Smith confessed to the armed robbery.
Police are continuing the investigation.
