NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A company which manufactures armored vehicles for military, law enforcement, and businesses will open the doors to its new home in North Charleston Thursday afternoon.

Streit USA have just moved into their new 70,000-square-foot facility off Palmetto Commerce Parkway, and they will celebrate with a grand opening at 2 p.m.

The company is relocating after several years spent on Fain Street, and growth is a major factor. After beginning with two, the company now has seven production lines and can produce up to 70 vehicles per month.

The new facility cost an estimated $6 million to build.

The company currently employs 30 people, but they are looking to add 10 to 15 positions in the next six months and to bring the total employees up to 50 in a year's time.

It costs anywhere from $60,000 to $125,000 to armor a vehicle, and they could sell anywhere from $100,000 to $700,000.

The Streit USA-manufactured vehicles are shipped from the Port of Charleston all over the world. It takes the company about 10 production days to have the vehicle ready for export.

Congressman Tim Scott will deliver the keynote speech at the facility on Thursday.
