SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

A custodian at Cane Bay High School is under arrest after deputies say he assaulted a 16-year-old student at the school on Thursday.

Wilber Burnette Dash was arrested today and charged with third degree assault. The Moncks Corner man is being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

Berkeley County sheriff's deputies responded to Cane Bay High School Thursday around 2 p.m. after a report that a student was assaulted by a custodian. An investigation by the Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of Dash.

According to the Berkeley County School District, Dash was placed on administrative leave as soon as the incident was reported pending the outcome of a full investigation, as is the District's policy.
