GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) -

The Goose Creek Police Department responded to a residence on Fox Chase Drive late Saturday night after they say a man fired shots into his home.

According to investigators John Edward Svagerko was having marital problems and seemed to be very upset. Officers responded to the home around 10:30 p.m. in reference to shots fired.

Police say Svagerko fired a single gunshot when family members attempted to talk to him. When officers were speaking to family members outside of the home, a second gunshot was heard coming from the home.

According to investigators, some time later, a third shot was heard coming from the home. The suspect's wife told police that her husband also had six rifles in the home and some of them were fitted with scopes.

After a two and a half hour stand-off with police, officers were able to negotiate with Svagerko to surrender.

Svagerko was arrested early Sunday morning around 1:30 a.m. The suspect is being charged with discharging a firearm and is being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

Authorities say no one else was in the home at the time of the incident.
