MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The flight deck of the USS Yorktown will be bathed in pink every night this month in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This is the second year in a row the retired aircraft carrier is joining the fight against breast cancer. Pink lights on the flight deck will shine on the "Fighting Lady" every evening throughout the month of October.

"As a part of the greater Charleston family, Patriots Point is proud to support this important initiative, which shines light on a disease that 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men will develop over the course of their lifetime," said Executive Director Mac Burdette.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, and is one of the leading causes of cancer death among women.

Breast Cancer Awareness month is an initiative to raise awareness of the disease and promote early detection, as well as raise money for cancer research.
