PHILIPSBURG, ST. MAARTEN (WCSC/AP) - Prosecutors announced on Monday that a second arrest has been made in the slaying of a Mt. Pleasant couple found dead in their condominium on St. Maarten.
According to the St. Maarten's Public Prosecutor's Office, a 17 year old has been arrested in connection to the killing of Michael and Thelma King.
A press release by the prosecutor's office did not give the name of the suspect, but referred to the teen as a male and gave his initials as J.C.M.
Authorities say they managed to track the teen down and arrest him in the Cole Bay area. According to prosecutors, the teen was considered a suspect since last week. Investigators say that further arrests "cannot be excluded."
Authorities have already arrested Meyshane Johnson, a Jamaican security guard.
According to Solicitor General Taco Stein, the magistrate had ruled there was enough evidence to detain Johnson as a suspect in the killing. Johnson is expected to go before a judge on Wednesday, where the prosecution will ask for pre-trial detention.
The bodies of Michael and Thelma King were found on Sept. 22 in their condominium at the Ocean Club Resort on St. Maarten, a 16-square-mile territory with about 50,000 inhabitants that shares a small island with the French dependency of St. Martin.
The Kings' funeral is set for Wednesday at Chapin United Methodist Church.
