PEMBROKE, NC (WMBF) – Several canines were seized and turned over to animal control after deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office pulled them off of the mangled remains of a woman mauled to death in Pembroke.
According to the information released from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, the deputies received the call about the dogs around 12:30 p.m. and responded to the home on Sharon Lane to find several dogs attacking a female in the backyard.
They came to discover that the rescued dogs were attacking a smaller dog when the woman tried to intervene with a rake. The larger dogs then attacked her, "leaving her body mangled."
Deputies were able to tear the dogs away from her body to find that she had died during the attack, and the canines were taken by animal control.
The victim's name has not yet been released, but the sheriff's office says she did live in the home and the homeowner rescued several of the dogs.
This case is under investigation by the Major Crimes Division of the Robeson County Sheriff's Office and was assisted by the Robeson County, Lumberton, Pembroke and Maxton Animal Control.
