JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a horse that was found dead on Johns Island was likely shot.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the sheriff's office says the investigation into a dead horse discovered on Brownswood Road on Oct. 26 revealed that an injury found on the animal was likely caused as a result of being shot.
Authorities say Animal Control deputies spoke to the owner's veterinarian who said that the injury was consistent with a gunshot wound.
An incident report states that the source of the shooting is not known.
Anyone having seen any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area surrounding Brownswood Road between 2 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 is asked to call the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at (843) 202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
