NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

An associate athletic director at The Citadel was arrested in early September for soliciting a prostitute in North Charleston, according to a police report.

The report states Senior Associate Athletic Director Robert Paul Plunkett, 61, was arrested on Sept. 5 after he offered to pay an undercover cop posing as a prostitute for oral sex.

Court records state Plunkett pleaded guilty to the charge shortly after his arrest.

According to the report, Plunkett approached the officer in the area of Remount Road and Dobson Drive around 5 p.m. and offered her a ride in his blue Toyota. The undercover officer told him yes and "to meet with her on Leiderman Street," the report states.

Police say the undercover officer then "re-approached" Plunkett, who again asked her if she needed a quick ride. Then the officer asked Plunkett if he wanted oral sex in the car. Police say Plunkett replied "yes" and then told her he was looking to spend "$30."

Other officers then intervened and Plunkett was taken into custody and charged with solicitation of a prostitute.

When reached for comment, the school's Vice President of External Affairs, Jeff Perez, said,"An employee at The Citadel, Robert P. Plunkett, pled guilty to a misdemeanor in North Charleston.  He has been suspended without pay pending a review through the college's employee discipline policy."

According to The Citadel's website, Plunkett graduated from the military college in 1973 and is in his fourth year with the athletic department.
