FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - Folly Beach City Council voted Tuesday night to uphold the suspension of a public safety officer.
The council voted six to one to turn down the recommendation of a committee picked to investigate Officer Ron Avallone's suspension. Last month that committee ruled Avallone should not have been suspended.
The officer was accused of mishandling a call by failing to arrest a suspect police say sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on the beach.
According to Folly Beach Public Safety, just a few hours after that incident, the suspect assaulted a woman at an apartment complex on Folly Road.
