Man wanted for taking $3k engagement ring from jewelry store

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for a 29-year-old man accused of taking off with a $3,000 ring at a jewelry store in West Ashley.

Investigators are looking for Gary Duane McKee wanted for grand larceny.

Authorities say on Thursday around 4:45 p.m., McKee walked into the Charleston Gems Store on 2022 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. and asked to look at several diamond rings.

An incident report states that when a clerk took out a ring valued at $3,495, McKee grabbed the ring and ran from the store.

According to investigators, McKee left the area in a white Pontiac driven by 18-year-old Erin Records, who was later located along with the vehicle. Records was charged with grand larceny.

McKee is described as 5'11" to 6'1", 240 to 280 pounds. He has a tattoo on his outer right forearm that says "Bonnie," a tattoo on his left forearm that says "Clyde," a tattoo on his inner right forearm that says "Geechie Way" and a gun tattoo on his inner left forearm.

Deputies say McKee's last known address was on Juniper Lane in Summerville and he may be driving a silver gray 2004 Dodge Stratus with SC license tag ADZ944 or a silver gray 2000 Jeep Cherokee with SC license tag EWL733.
