Troopers: Motorist strikes tree stump, dies

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - A motorist was killed early Monday after driving off the road and striking a large tree stump in Georgetown, authorities say.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Bob Beres said the fatal wreck happened on Pennyroyal Road around 2:45 a.m.

Beres said the motorist was driving west in a 1991 four-door BMW and drove off the right side of the road before hitting the stump.

The motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to Beres.  We are waiting to hear back from the Georgetown County Coroner's Office for identification of the victim.
