ANDERSON, SC (WYFF) - An apparently suicidal man armed with a knife was shot when he lunged at officers, police say.

Officers responded to a call of a man threatening suicide Wednesday night, according to Sgt. David Creamer with the Anderson Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found Maurice Johnson with a knife and looking like he may hurt himself, Creamer said.

Creamer said that officers asked Johnson to drop the knife but he charged the officers, and he was shot in the shoulder.

Johnson was transported by Medshore to AnMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Creamer, the State Law Enforcement Division is taking over investigation and the Anderson police officer is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
