Coroner: Upstate woman killed after helping neighbor

GREENVILLE, SC (WYFF) - An elderly woman who was returning home after helping a neighbor was struck by a car and killed Wednesday evening.

Greenville County coroner Tony Segars said 78-year-old Naomi Watson from Greenville was trying to cross Poinsett Highway when she was struck by a car.

Watson was crossing the road to go back home after helping a neighbor who had fallen in their driveway.

The accident happened Wednesday at 7:24 p.m. near the intersection of Poinsett Highway and Mt. Pleasant Avenue.

Watson was pronounced dead at the scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
