MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - It's a busy week for construction crews in Mt. Pleasant as work continues on the improvement project for Johnnie Dodds Boulevard.
Construction officials say work will begin Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m., with I-526 exit 29, which connects the interstate with Highway 17 North, being closed until 5:30 a.m. the following day.
On Thursday, not only will the I-526 exit ramp be closed, but so will all lanes of Highway 17 at Hungryneck Boulevard. Those closures begin at 10:30 p.m. and end at 5:30 a.m.
Friday night, full closure of Highway 17 and the I-526 exit ramp continue from 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Those closures will return for the week's final night of work Saturday, and both closures will end Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
Motorists heading north on Highway 17 can follow detour signs to Bowman Road, just before the new Johnnie Dodds/Bowman Road overpass, take a left onto Bowman Road, continue onto Mathis Ferry Road, and follow Mathis Ferry Road north to Highway 17.
Should Highway 17 northbound traffic either miss the Bowman road exit before the new overpass or want to use Rifle Range Road, there is also a signed detour turning right from Highway 17 at the Wando Crossing Shopping Center, then right onto Stuart Engals Boulevard, left onto Bowman Road, and left onto Rifle Range Road to Highway 17.
Highway 17 southbound traffic shall follow detour signs right onto Mathis Ferry Road.
Hungryneck Boulevard traffic is being rerouted to and from Highway 17 via Venning Road.
