U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warn of fake fliers

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have released a statement that fliers being received by John's Island residents bearing the group's name are fakes.

A number of John's Island residents have received fliers in the mail claiming to be from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District. The fliers contain the following statement:

"Wetland Conservation Buffer Areas are not to be encroached upon. Please cease and desist immediately. Further violations will be prosecuted by the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineering."

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering say the fliers are being distributed by an unknown party and not the Charleston District. They should not be considered as legitimate.

Official notifications would be sent by United States Postal Service and include the Department of the Army letterhead, officials say.
