A Lancaster man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he left his child and toddler home alone while he went on a beer run.
Christopher Blackmon, 26, of Lancaster, is charged with public intoxication and two counts of unlawful neglect of a child, according to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to Buford Crossroads in reference to an intoxicated man on a moped.
Blackmon was walking down the road intoxicated. He told deputies that had left his home on Dixie School Road because he ran out of beer and needed to get more, according to the release.
His moped ran out of gas on the way to the store so he left it on the side of the road.
He also told deputies that he left his children home alone.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the home to check on the children. Once inside, they found a 6-month-old and a 2-year-old child asleep and unharmed.
Both children were wearing only diapers. The infant was in a playpen and the toddler was in the bedroom sleeping on top of a blanket.
Deputies say the house was in disarray and beer cans and food scattered around the home. Mice were also running around inside the residence.
The Department of Social Services was notified and the children were placed in the custody of their mother and other family members.
Blackmon was jailed at the Lancaster County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
