SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

The man behind the wheel of the SUV which struck and seriously injured a Summerville police officer as he was working another wreck Wednesday has been cited.

Corporal Bob Beres with South Carolina Highway Patrol said 45-year-old David Hilleshiem was cited under the "Move Over Law" and will be subject to a fine ranging from $300 to $500.

Summerville Police Department Officer Jason Workman, 34, was hit in the 200 block of West 5th North Street by a passing Ford Expedition driven by Hilleshiem, Beres said.

The incident happened around 6:45 a.m., according to Beres.

Summerville Police Department Captain Jon Rogers said Workman was working a previous collision and crossing the road when he was struck by Hilleshiem's Expedition.

He was taken to Medical University of South Carolina for treatment of serious injuries. Dorchester County EMS Director Colonel Doug Warren said Workman was stable at the time of transport.
