Sheriff: Suspects set trap, ambushed victims in robbery

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is looking for two suspects wanted after an armed robbery in Plantersville Sunday night.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Carrie Cuthbertson said the armed robbery happened at 5 p.m., when the victims were traveling down Philippi Lane in an automobile and observed some tree limbs blocking the road.

Cuthbertson said as one of the victims got out to remove the limbs from the road, two men came out of the woods carrying what appeared to be a handgun and a shotgun.

The suspects took a woman's purse, and as the victims were backing away from the suspects, multiple shots were fired at their vehicle, Cuthbertson said.

Victims told deputies the suspects fled towards Jackson Village Road, and a bloodhound tracking team was able to track the suspects' scent to that road, but that was where the trail ended.

The suspects are described as slimly-built black males standing approximately 5'6" and 5'10".

Anyone that can identify the suspects or has any information about the robbery is asked to call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5101 or send a tip using Text-A-Tip.
