WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -
Charleston firefighters contained a small fire at an apartment complex in West Ashley on Monday.
Charleston Fire Department crews responded to the Etiwan Garden Apartments, located on Etiwan Avenue, a little before 11 a.m. Monday after someone reported seeing smoke in the area. When they arrived on scene, firefighters saw flames and smoke coming from one apartment.
Department spokesman Mark Ruppel said the fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to one unit in building E.
However, residual smoke and water damage also affected surrounding apartments.
Ruppel said no one was home at the time of the fire and they are still investigating a cause. Crews will remain on scene for clean-up and to check for hot spots.
