Teenager charged for setting fire at Dollar General

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators have arrested an 18-year-old man accused of setting a fire at a Dollar General store in Colleton County Sunday night.

The Cottageville Police Department charged Caleb Lunden Fulmer with two counts of third-degree arson and filing a false police report.

On Sunday night, officers responded to the Dollar General Store on 11051 on Cottageville Hwy for a fire. An officer then met with Fulmer, who was a store employee.

Fulmer told officers that the fire was out and directed authorities where the fire was.

A police report states that as police officers and fire officials were heading to the back of the store, Fulmer was walking towards authorities holding a blue pillow and paper towels that were on fire.

Fulmer placed all the burned items on the parking lot in front of the store's entrances.

A clerk told investigators that as she was working the register, Fulmer said that he was going to use the restroom.

The clerk said "about 2-4 minutes later" a woman said that there was a fire in the back of the store.

Authorities say the clerk then ran to the restroom and told Fulmer about the fire.  Both the clerk and Fulmer assisted customers of the store and called 911.
