JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters have contained a brush fire that was threatening Johns Island homes on Tuesday morning.
St. Johns Fire District Battalion Chief James Ghi said the fire started around 7 a.m. and took multiple fire departments nearly three hours to control the blaze.
The fire covered about 20 acres of land behind the Island Estates neighborhood. That neighborhood is located off of Brownswood and Main roads.
No homes were damaged, although the fires were threatening them.
"It was within 75 yards of some houses but we set up a good defense and it's been taken care of," said Ghi.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission arrived and cut a "fire line." The fire is well contained.
Ghi said the cause was still under investigation.
