Moultrie school district 2 holding public meeting on attendance lines

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Moultrie Constituent District 2 School Board will be holding a meeting on Thursday for a public viewing and input session regarding redrawing school attendance lines for elementary and middle schools.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wando South Campus on 942 Whipple Road in Mount Pleasant.

At the session, the board will display options currently under consideration. School officials say the options will also be posted at after the meeting.

A press release states that after receiving public input, "The constituent school board will continue discussions and deliberations to come to agreement on new attendance zones which will go into effect next school year (2013-2014)."

The Moultrie Constituent District 2 School Board has been working the past 18 months on determining the most efficient way to redraw the school attendance lines for the elementary and middle schools to meet the following priorities:

Consider current enrollment and capacities at campuses

Enable all schools to offer comparable curriculum offerings

Facilitate the neighborhood/feeder school concept Balance the socio-economic distribution of students

Establish effective traffic patterns to shorten travel time
