WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have charged another North Charleston man in connection with an armed robbery at a West Ashley apartment complex.
The Charleston Police Department has charged 20-year-old Yassir Mustafa Elshwafa with two counts of attempted armed robbery. Last week, police charged 20-year-old Brandon Lloyd Daniels and 19-year-old Lamarkeis Forrest with attempted armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery.
Daniels is also charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun, possession of a stolen handgun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police say the incident happened on Oct. 21 around 1 a.m., when officers responded to the Woodbridge Apartments on Ashley River Road after gunshots were reported.
The two victims said they were approaching the stairwell to an apartment building, when they saw two men wearing masks coming. The victims said one of the men was armed with a handgun.
The victims told officers that they took off running and heard several gunshots as they ran away. Authorities arrived on scene and saw a silver Chevy Cruze speed off from the area.
A police report states a traffic stop was initiated and the passenger took off from the vehicle.
Officers say they saw the suspect discard a gun as he was fleeing.
