Suspected James Island drug dealer arrested following pursuit

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspected drug dealer who authorities say was caught after a brief foot pursuit on James Island.

Investigators charged 26-year-old Javian Roshard Washington with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute within close proximity of a school or park and simple possession of marijuana.

Police were on patrol in the area of Ferguson Road and Danny Street when they noticed a parked vehicle with two people inside and Washington standing at the side of the vehicle.

As officers approached the vehicle, Washington took off, police say.

A police report states that before Washington was taken to the ground by officers, he threw a bag onto the ground. According to investigators, the bag that Washington threw contained 11.9 grams of cocaine.

Officers say they also found 3 grams of marijuana in Washington's jacket pocket.
