Goose Creek WR Tramel Terry was named 1 of 5 finalists for the 2012 Mr. Football award in South Carolina it was announced Wednesday night. The award will be given out December 7th in Myrtle Beach as part of the North-South game week of festivities.
Terry is the only nominee from the Lowcountry. The other nominees include Akia Booker from Byrnes, Ben Boulware of TL Hanna, Darius Hammond of Strom Thurmond and Mykal Moody of Conway.
Terry, who currently has a verbal commitment to attend Georgia next season, has been one of the keys for the Gators 10-0 start to the season as they look to defend their state championship. He's combined for over 1200 yards of total offense and 19 TD's on the season.
If Terry wins, and he fulfills his commitment to Georgia, he'd be the first Mr. Football winner in the state to not play his college ball at South Carolina in the last 5 seasons. Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore, Jadeveon Clowney and Shaq Roland have all gone on to play for the Gamecocks. Terry will attempt to become the first Lowcountry native to win the award since Moe Thompson of Stratford back in 2001.
